Italian Farmhouse Chic - Masseria Cimino

I’m just going to be forthright with you and well…sound like a broken record. If I haven’t emphasized this enough ;-), I love historically restored hotels. I mean, really, who wouldn’t? “Mr. Blast from the Past” meets “Mrs. Nuevo Modernito”! Perfection! Ok…now down to bizness.

Masseria Cimino in Italy is agrarian chic, golf course retreat all mixed into one winning combo! You’ve got one part 18th century fortified farmhouse built with 6th century Ancient Roman stones, you’ve got another part surrounding fertile lands with old olive grove and vegetable garden, and the final part 21stcentury 18-hole pro golf course at your disposal. And the interiors, you ask? Very contextually relevant and very attractive. The bones of this farmhouse are handsome and they’ve done a good job of smoothing out the rough edges.  Plus, the repetition and illumination of simple farm tools, rusted gadgets and other “whathaveyous” adds a nice punch to the all white space. Nicely done, guys! Book your stay today.

    Light It Up

I've loved this lobby for a while now and chances are you too have spotted Hotel La Belle Juliette in other publications and online. Finally, I decided to add it to my inspirations. The highlight (no pun intended) is the built-in bookshelves. The backlighting and vibrant background color against the dark gray shelves create a nice focal point. Additionally, the colorful avant-garde furniture help to "spread the joy" in this residential-like lobby. You can check out more pictures of this Parisian hotel here.

    GT Fish and Oyster

As I was flipping through the latest digital copy of  Hospitality Design Magazine, I stopped dead in my tracks when I came to page 85. On it, I found this beauty of a restaurant called GT Fish and Oyster in none other than Chicago, IL! I find the large wooden residential-style "oval" tables a breath of fresh air. It's almost as if you are in someone's totally hip, totally cool dining room. The design concept behind the restaurant is...the refinement of a yacht with a modern play on a fishermen's village house.  Pretty cute and chic, I must say!

    Let The Sunshine In

How cute is this summer retreat? A family in Portugal commissioned architects LDA to design a summer play pad which consists of three "cabanes" modeled after traditional fishermen houses. The results are stunning...simple, chic and charming! You can check out more pics here.

    Riad AnaYela in Marrakech

One would believe the enchanted, amorous story behind AnaYelacomes straight out of a movie script.  During restoration efforts of this 300-year-old palace, a hand-written manuscript was unearthed in a hidden room behind a wall. The centuries-old manuscript told the tale of a 16-year-old girl named Yela and her love affair with a boy. At night overlooking Marrakech, they would secretly meet on the rooftop in a tower of the palace. Here, on top of a magic flying carpet, they shared their first kiss and fell in love.

Today, the tale of Yela is engraved in Arabic calligraphy on every door of the property. Your experience at AnaYelais sure to be dusted with enchantment and seeped in fantasy. This intimate boutique hotel houses a maximum of 10 guests at a time with only three guestrooms and two suites for accommodations. All the architectural restoration was executed by local Moroccan artisans without the use of electric tools. An open air central courtyard with heated pool and a rooftop terrace for dining and drinks is available for guests to soak in the sounds and mystery of AnaYela and the surrounding city of Marrakech.

    Hello Paradise, I Miss You...Part I

Ever wonder where paradise lives? One little spot on the map that's near and dear to my heart certainly doesn't disappoint in the natural beauty department. Random palm tree here, pristine sandy beach there...clear blue waters abound, sun all year round...Oh Jamaica, Jamaica!
