Borgo Egnazia Resort in Southern Italy
Tue, January 31, 2012 Located on the Adriatic Sea in southeastern Italy, Borgo Egnazia is more of a resort paradise than a boutique hotel. With an 18,000 square foot spa, 63 guestrooms, 93 villa suites, private townhomes, multiple pools and a golf course, Borgo Egnazia is the new-build, ground-up sister to Masseria Cimino, a historical property by the same Italian hotel development group.

Of course, the hoteliers (the same family that owns the vast swath of land the Borgo Egnazia sits on) took careful measures to blend the architecture and land together into a contextually-relevant countryside resort.
Olive trees, succulents, lemon trees, jasmines and prickly pears are interspersed with the local vernacular: a combination of a traditional Puglian aesthetic, and Spanish and Moorish design. Local limestone graces the façade while craftsmen, builders, and artisans from the area contributed their wares and skills.

For example, the chandelier in the restaurant was designed by a local artist who used hundreds of glass bottles and light bulbs to construct the piece.

I find the all-neutral, yet textural interior to be a perfect pairing for a relaxing escape. I can imagine myself walking barefoot throughout the property with a carefree attitude, a beach bag and a book in tow or rejuvenating at the spa with a facial or massage. Take me away…

Absolutely lovely, and I agree, so relaxing. As much as I love designing with color, I am smitten by the monochromatic but textural environments...so soothing... Love it!
