His art is RAD and I like it!
Love stories about the “underdog, outsider, off-beat” guy that turn out well. The career of Mexican artist, Martin Ramirez, is just that.

After being arrested and admitted to a mental health/institutional hospital in northern California, it was his doctor who recognized his potential. Subsequently, his doctor, Tarmo Pasto, fostered Ramirez’s talent by supplying him with art supplies and encouragement. Soon Ramirez was busy creating a range of pieces that were collected and promoted by Pasto. Towards the end of Ramirez’s life, in the 1960’s, his work exploded onto the art gallery scene when a gallerist in Chicago showcased his collection. From there, his work was picked up and exhibited in famous museums around the world.

If you are in NY, check out his work on display at Ricco/Maresca Gallery (last day is today).
