Corrour Lodge in Scotland
Tue, February 21, 2012 This “castle” in Scotland is out of a fairy tale book, that is, a 21st century fairy tale book. Corrour Lodge and the 57,000 acres it sits on are full of highlands, moors, and lochs…oh my, with lots of pony trekking, deer hunting and eagle spotting; activities you can do on the fly. To get there you can arrive by overnight train, helicopter or seaplane. If you take the latter you’ll make a sweeping entrance as you land in Loch Ossian, the lake the lodge overlooks.
The silvery granite and steel-glass façade are a bit of an unusual choice for the lush, remote landscape of the Highlands. Corrour Lodge stands firmly on its pristine ground with its hard-edge geometry and austere looks but offers, nonetheless, serenity and escapism with its sweeping views over the calm waters of Loch Ossian.

While the lodge sleeps 30 people, it’s the children who get most excited as they will be sharing tales amongst one another in the dedicated “bunk bed room” which sleeps 14 little ones. The adults can indulge in their own luxuries such as throwing a dinner party in the formal dining room, selecting a good book to read from the library, or playing a round of pool in the game room. Corrour Lodge is a sanctuary of comfort in the “wilds of Scotland”.
